• The company is broadening its portfolio of leading thermal barrier, wear resistant and anti-corrosion coatings for a range of industries
  • A new research and development facility will be opened in 2018 as part of an investment to increase the capability of Zircotec’s technologies

Abingdon, UK, 16th January 2018… Specialist thermal management company, Zircotec Group, is increasing its technical capability by investing in a new R&D facility and appointing Simon Hiiemae as Technical Director. It aims to broaden the company’s portfolio of thermal barrier solutions following demand for wear resistant and anti-corrosion coatings.

Hiiemae joins from a leading international surface solutions company, where he spent over a decade in senior roles working across pioneering surface engineering projects. As well as working to diversify Zircotec’s product range, Hiiemae will also utilise experience garnered in the space, aerospace, industrial, defence, automotive, architectural, maritime and deep-sea industries to enhance the company’s state-of-the-art technologies and optimise existing processes. His role will support the company’s recent investments into the development of a new R&D facility.

“Zircotec has identified benefits of its plasma spray coating technology that go beyond advanced thermal management and we’re delighted to welcome Simon Hiiemae to the board of directors,” says Zircotec Group Sales Director, Graeme Barette. “He has the proven expertise and diverse market knowledge to help improve and expand our current thermal barrier ranges into new industries. Testing has shown that our technology can be used to improve corrosion and wear resistance and through our close relationship with our customers we know it will help them to solve some interesting challenges that they face.”

“I am delighted to join such an ambitious, pioneering company that has made its name in the development of truly market-leading technologies and which is investing heavily in the future,” explains Hiiemae. “I am looking forward to helping the company thrive and inspire continued growth.”

“Originally developed for the British nuclear industry and then adopted by Formula 1, Zircotec’s plasma spray coating can be developed for even harsher environments and higher temperatures without negatively impacting production or point of sale costs,” Hiiemae concludes.

Hiiemae started at Zircotec Group at the beginning of January and is already working on a number of projects, including the R&D facility, automation processes, development of the company’s portfolio and expansion of the technologies into new industries.
