Incredibly rare double awards win for Innovation and International Trade for ground-breaking autonomous vehicle testing and development technology
Hertfordshire, UK, 23rd April 2019… UK simulation software specialist, rFpro has won two prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. The company has been honoured in both the Innovation and International Trade categories through its technology that accelerates the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles to enhance vehicle and road safety.
“We are delighted that the hard work of everybody at rFpro has been acknowledged by the Queen’s Awards judging panel and so proud to be one of just a few companies to achieve a double award,” says Chris Hoyle, rFpro founder and technical director. “It is an extremely exciting time for the automotive industry, but also a demanding one for manufacturers and their suppliers. Technology has never moved so quickly and expectations for improved vehicle efficiency and safety are rising at unparalleled speed. To play such a key role in the emergence of systems that help meet these expectations is hugely satisfying for our team, and recognition by the Queen’s Awards is further validation of our ongoing work. Our contribution to making the world’s road networks safer is reward enough, but it is fantastic to receive such prestigious recognition.”
rFpro was presented with the Innovation award for its driving simulation software that aids the testing and training of autonomous vehicles. The company is able to reduce the time and risk associated with the development of ADAS and autonomous vehicle technologies through simulated testing in accurate digital twins of thousands of kilometres of public roads. It provides safe, reliable and repeatable testing for car manufacturers and their suppliers. The International Trade award was earned for rFpro’s outstanding overseas sales, which have grown by more than 62% over the last three years. The company’s products are used by seven of the world’s top ten road car manufacturers and are also empowering teams across all the major global motorsport series, including Formula 1® and NASCAR.
Now in its 53rd year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the country, with winning businesses able to use the awards’ esteemed emblem for the next five years. rFpro will celebrate its awards during a royal reception at Buckingham Palace for Queen’s Awards winners in the summer.

rFpro provides driving simulation software, and 3D content, for Deep Learning Autonomous Driving, ADAS and Vehicle Dynamics testing and validation. rFpro is being used to train, test and validate Deep Learning systems for ADAS and Autonomous applications by OEMs and Tier-1s. When developing systems based on machine learning from sensor feeds, such as camera, LiDAR and radar feeds, the quality of the 3D environment model is very important. The more accurate the virtual world is the greater the correlation will be when progressing to real-world testing. rFpro’s HiDef models are built around a graphics engine that includes a physically modeled atmosphere, weather and lighting, as well as physically modeled materials for every object in the scene. 100s of kilometers of public road models are available off-the-shelf, from rFpro, spanning North America, Asia and Europe, including multi-lane highways, urban, rural, mountain routes, all copied faithfully from the real world. rFpro scales from a desktop workstation to a massively parallel real-time test environment connecting to customers’ autonomous driver models and human test drivers.
